Samsung subsidiary HARMAN has launched the Ignite Store Developers Portal, a hub for the Android Automotive developer community.

HARMAN is traditionally an audio company but began its transition towards offering connected services in 2015 following the acquisitions of Redbend and Symphony Teleca. The following year, HARMAN acquired automotive cybersecurity firm TowerSec.

The company now has years of experience in the automotive industry and launched the HARMAN Ignite Store in January 2020 with the aim of offering a personalised connected driving experience through a network of global services.

Sripriya Raghunathan, SVP of Automotive Services SBU at HARMAN, said:

“The third-party applications and services area offers significant opportunity for mobility innovation – today and going forward, with limitless possibilities to connect, protect and entertain drivers and their passengers.

We built the HARMAN Ignite Store Developers Portal through years of automotive expertise to help connect Android developers with automotive manufacturers, so together we can increase the effectiveness and availability of in-vehicle applications on the cloud.”

Android Automotive developers can deploy their apps through the Ignite Store to reach more users. The new portal helps developers to get started and supplies toolkits, technical documentation, APIs, and access to HARMAN’s network of OEMs.

HARMAN’s Ignite Store Developers Portal also enables developers to collaborate, test, and document their automotive apps directly within.

“With our Developers Portal, Android developers can more easily engage their target audience, OEMs have a streamlined way to drive new experience opportunities around their brands, and consumers can enjoy enhanced Experiences Per Mile in their vehicles through access to their favourite content,” added Raghunathan.

Automotive manufacturers retain full control over how apps are implemented in their vehicles, helping to maintain safety.
